I'm hiring
Oh hello. I'm hiring a business trends reporter. Know one?
Hey friend. Every Sunday random weekday (or so!), this dispatch helps you make better creative and strategic decisions, or talks about the innies and outties of independent consulting, or provides resources to help you do your best creative work. Anyway, hello, it’s good to see you. -Steve

We interrupt this email’s irregular programming to bring you this breaking alert: I’m hiring a business trends reporter.
If you can introduce me to someone qualified, or you are someone qualified, won’t you please drop me a line.
More on the open position below.
Before you ask: no, I’m not hiring a reporter for this newsletter. That would be silly!
Longtime subscribers may be aware, but newer friends may not, that one of the services I provide to clients is recruiting.
Specifically, I find talented creatives for brands, publishers, and sometimes agencies. I specialize in editors, reporters, content strategists, and creative executives.
I really enjoy doing this! Mostly because I’ve built products at brands, and launched publications, and staffed my own newsrooms, and run content for an agency. So I’ve first-hand experience of how to find the right people, why specific people will or won’t be good for a role, and what kind of staffing model works. Or doesn't work! Humans: what a mess, right?
If you or your company is looking to make a hire or hires, please get in touch.
On the the open role.
Hiring: Business Trends and Markets Reporter
The Observer (formerly The New York Observer) is looking for a reporter to cover money and markets. We’re seeking someone with a comprehensive knowledge of the global economy, Wall Street and finance, but who also is deeply curious about all things money, from DAOs to hedge funds to SPACs to the latest in fintech. This reporter will know about the stories everyone else is writing, but will understand where to find the stories no one else is writing.
At its core, this beat will be about power and the powerful, and understanding how money shapes the world we live in. We’re looking for a reporter who can see both the big picture and the connections that link companies to markets to investors to economies, but embraces the details. We’re looking for stories that go past the headlines and reveal bigger truths about how capitalism works today.
We’re looking for a reporter with
* At least four years of experience reporting about finance or related experience
* A facility with writing both breaking news and longer enterprise stories
* Fluid and authoritative writing
* The ability to develop sources and break news
* A comfort with data and experience building their own charts
* An eagerness to find and pitch story ideas daily
* Interest in contributing to or writing a newsletter
*High journalistic standards, attention to detail, and the skeptical heart of a fact-checker.
Our headquarters are in New York City, but we will consider remote candidates who live in the United States.
Apply be sending an email to Steve Bryant at sabryant@gmail.com. Please include links to your work.
